A one and half hour falconry taster session in which you will get hands-on with our birds of prey. On arrival in time for your 9.30am start you will be greeted by one of the falconers who will give you a quick guide around our collection of birds. You will then be taken to our all weather display area and given a glove and shown how to fly the birds to your very own hand.

The traditional application of falconry has been to take a bird of prey, train it and then attempt to catch wild quarry with it. This experience is not a full-on hunting expedition in the Cheshire countryside surrounding us with a falconer and hawk. This expedition is hands-on and demonstrates the ability of trained birds and their unique relationship with their human partners.

Note: Our Walk the Wildside takes us along uneven terrain on forestry footpaths and through woodland. No severe inclines or scrambling over stiles is necessary but sensible waking shoes are strongly recommended. Participants and holders of spectator vouchers must be 14 years or over. A full and unique day with birds of prey in which participants get hands-on with and fly a variety of different species throughout the morning session. You will first of all get to know the trained birds that comprise the working part of our collection.

The afternoon session of our Falconry Experience builds on the morning session by showing the traditional application of falconry dating back many thousands of years. Then falconry was about hunting quarry although people who took part were unlikely to rely on it for the regular provision of food.
